Please join Council on Foundations members and others within the Southern California philanthropic community for a unique program to learn about the opportunities and challenges affecting the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors at a local, state, and federal levels as the 2016 election cycle gets underway.
Participants will learn about the implications of recent political shifts on philanthropy and the issues we support. We'll also discuss the legislation and reforms that directly affect the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors and learn about opportunities for action and advocacy.
A panel of experts moderated by Dr. Raphael J. Sonenshein, Executive Director, Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs, will offer analysis of big picture, state and local issues and opportunities for philanthropy.
Sue Santa, the Council on Foundations' Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Legal Affairs and Washington, DC-based Capitol Hill expert, will kick off the program with an overview of the federal landscape and how philanthropy can actively support a vibrant charitable sector.
Pete Manzo, President and CEO of United Ways of California, will cover federal and state issues regarding health and human services as well as other areas affecting the nonprofit sector in the state.
John Kim, Managing Co-Director of The Advancement Project, will discuss the local political scene in Southern California and highlight opportunities for organizing and advocacy on key issues as a result of the recent political shifts.
